Linda Barnes-Caldwell | Council President | 5th District Councilwoman
Councilwoman Linda Barnes-Caldwell, representing the 5th District, has been a lifelong resident of the community she now serves. She joined the City Council in January 2015 and is an active and engaged public servant.
She is a member of the National League of Cities, the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, and Women in Municipal Government. She is also a Lifetime Member of the NAACP and serves as the Precinct Committeeman for G5-16. Councilwoman Caldwell has been a dedicated member of St. John Baptist Church for over 44 years.
In addition to her service on the council, she is a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. When she is not working on behalf of the City of Gary, she serves the community as a nurse for the Gary Community School Corporation.
Councilwoman Caldwell proudly upholds her motto: “Putting People First.” She strives to ensure that the needs and concerns of not only the 5th District but also residents across the entire city are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
Her most important goal is to make the 5th District a place where all residents feel safe, supported, and proud to call home.
